SeaSisters: Empowering Sri Lankan Women
How Surfing can help to fight for women's rights in this world?
In our previous retreats in Sri Lanka, we connected and partnership with a very beautiful project that is working towards for a social change and women equality– called SeaSisters. We have dived deep into Sri Lankan culture, connected with Sri Lankan women, and learned how to be a more conscious traveler. We learned why the ocean is often a feared place for Sri Lankans and why there are barely Sri Lankan women seen in the ocean swimming or surfing.
SeaSisters is a social enterprise that strives for a more inclusive and responsible surf community in Sri Lanka. Founded in 2018 by two surfers with backgrounds in international development In August 2018, Martina Burtscher and Amanda Prifti, with the belief that the ocean is for everybody, and that surfing can serve as a powerful tool of change.
WHY SRI LANKAN WOMEN CAN’T SWIM OR SURF?
SeaSisters creates a safe space for Sri Lankan girls and women through their Swim & Surf Program to enjoy the ocean, and influence mindsets around gender norms.
